HC Deb 28 May 1976 vol 912 cc452-3W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if his Department received a communication from the St. Helens and District Chamber of Trade in which counter-proposals were made against the Skelmersdale Development Corporation's proposed extension of boundaries; whether he has dealt with the St. Helens and District Chamber of Trade's communication; and what advice or undertaking he has offered to the constituents of the hon. Member for St. Helens.

Mr. Guy Barnett

A reply was sent on 26th March 1976. My right hon. Friend has not yet decided whether to publish a draft order to extend the designated area of Skelmersdale New Town as requested by the Development Corporation. If a draft is published, a full public inquiry will be held, at which the chamber of commerce will be able to develop its arguments, before any final decision is taken.
