HC Deb 28 May 1976 vol 912 c453W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give the most recent estimate of the percentage take up of (a) rent rebates, (b) rent allowances, unfurnished and furnished separately and (c) rate rebates.

Mr. Armstrong

It is estimated that in the first half of 1975 the take up of rent rebates in England and Wales was 70–75 per cent. and the take up of rent allowance by tenants of unfurnished accommodation was 30–35 per cent. The most recent estimate for furnished tenants is about 10 per cent. at April 1974. In 1974–75 the take up of rate rebates was 70 per cent. These estimates exclude supplementary benefit recipients.
