§ Mr. Fauldsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he proposes to take to tighten up the regulations about repair work on cars and lorries following the complaints of defective accident repair work made at the annual conference of the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association at Southport.
§ Dr. GilbertVehicles which are put back on the road after the repair of accident damage must conform to the requirements of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1973, the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1971 and the Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness Equipment and Use) Regulations 1972. I am aware of the complaints raised at the conference to which my hon. Friend refers, but have no evidence of a road safety risk resulting from defective accident repair work which would justify the imposition of new statutory requirements. If, however, the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Associations has evidence to this effect I will gladly consider it.
