HC Deb 26 May 1976 vol 912 cc281-2W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the number of accidents to the eyes of children which would be avoided if all children wore spectacles with shatter-proof glass lenses.

Dr. Owen

Information is not collected routinely about injuries to children from the breakage of ordinary glass lenses, but a limited survey undertaken by the Department several years ago indicated that the number of such injuries was small, and this has recently been confirmed by a study of eye accidents to children undertaken in Scotland.
