Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will arrange for a complete revaluation of properties in the Denby Dale area, with particular regard to admitted anomalies between the rateable values in that area and the remainder of the Kirklees District.

Mr. Denzil Davies,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 24th May 1976;

No. There is an existing and adequate appeal procedure. Dissatisfied ratepayers can challenge their assessments before independent local valuation courts, with a further right of appeal to the Lands Tribunal.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to ensure that all Denby Dale ratepayers are directly reassured that the rateable values in their area are being checked, and that all anomalies are being dealt with by the Kirklees Valuation Office.

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 24th May 1976, Vol. 912, c. 90], gave the following information:

The valuation officer, Kirklees, is now responsible for all rating assessments in Denby Dale. Several appeals have been settled, and as is normal practice, the valuation officer will, if appropriate, make corrective proposals in other cases.
