HC Deb 22 March 1976 vol 908 cc64-5W
Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what proposals he has to reduce the serious unemployment in the Greater London area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Fraser,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 19th March, 1976; Vol. 907, col. 660], gave the following information:

While I recognise that the present economic recession has led to a number of serious unemployment prolems in particular parts of Greater London, unemployment in the Greater London area as a whole is significantly below the national average, and the area continues to offer a comparatively wide range of job opportunities.

The Greater London area is already benefiting from the various measures which the Government have introduced to mitigate the worst effects of unemployment.
