Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the latest figures available for the proportion which wages and salaries form of total production costs in all British manufacturing industries; and if he will provide, where possible, comparisons of those figures with other member countries of the EEC.

Mr. Denzil Davies,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 18th March 1976; Vol. 907, c. 612] gave the following information:

The latest figures for the United Kingdom were given in a Written Answer to the hon. Member for Eastleigh (Mr. Price) on 16th December—[Vol. 902, c. 563].—In terms of the definitions used in the European System of National Accounts, the figures for compensation of employees as a percentage of gross value added in United Kingdom manufacturing industry—the costs incurred in generating its output—are:
