§ Sir B. Rhys Williamsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the net extra cost in a full financial year of raising family allowances to £2.50 per week and making them payable for all children, at the same time withdrawing child allowances for tax.
§ Mr. O'MalleyIf the value to basic rate taxpayers of all child tax allowances for children under 19 were withdrawn, there would be a saving of about £500 million a year, on the assumption that the extra allowances would be taxed and clawback extended to all first children.
