HL Deb 28 July 1976 vol 373 c1456WA
Lord CHELWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When it is intended to regulate by order the specified quantities of wine sold by the glass from whatever container it is provided; and what consideration has been given to the fact that failure to do this at an early date will make the Draft Weights and Measures (Sale of Wine) Order due to come into force on 1st January 1977 largely ineffective.

Lord ORAM

The Government are considering regulating the sale of wine by the glass and hope to initiate the necessary consultations in the near future. The Government do not accept that the absence of such an order in any way invalidates the Weights and Measures (Sale of Wine) Order. This order regulates the sale of wine by the carafe and is a valuable piece on consumer protection legislation in its own right.
