HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 c27W
Sir John Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many people in the Woolwich area are likely to be declared redundant if the RA Manning and Records Office is relocated in the North.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

It is not yet possible to say whether any of the staff of the Royal Artillery Manning and Records Office, Footscray would become redundant on the move of the office to York in 1978. The proposal to move to York is currently the subject of consultations with the departmental staff side and trade unions.

Sir John Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the reasons for moving the RA Manning and Records Office, which has been linked with Woolwich since 1862, and transferring it to York.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

The lease of the Royal Artillery Manning and Records Office, Footscray expires in 1980 and it is proposed to move the office to York in 1978 as part of the plans to relocate the Army's manning and records offices and regimental pay offices on to four sites. The whole reorganisation is expected to achieve substantial savings in running costs and greater efficiency, and is currently the subject of consultations with the departmental staff side and trade unions.
