§ Mr. Denzil Davies£1,165 million in 1973, £1,468 million in 1974 and £1,778 million (provisional) in 1975. These figures include estimates of VAT receipts 75W from the supply of tobacco. Because VAT is collected in arrear and there were rebates of tobacco duty paid on goods held in stock on 31st March 1973 before the introduction of VAT, the revenue in 1973 was less than for a full year.
