HC Deb 05 February 1976 vol 904 c695W
Mr. Watkinson

asked the Attorney-General what was the total cost to the taxpayer of the prosecution and defence in the proceedings against Heinrich Hanau and others in relation to the book "Inside Linda Lovelace".

The Attorney-General

Whilst the actual amount must depend upon the decisions of taxing officers, an estimate that I have seen referred to in the Press, of £200,000, is a gross exaggeration. It is not anticipated that the costs will exceed about £13,000. Of this approximate sum, costs at the committal stage amounted to about £1,000, solicitors' and witnesses' costs came to about £6,000 and the total fees for five counsels, including preparation and trial, amount to about £6,000.
