HC Deb 04 February 1976 vol 904 cc680-1W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many copies of department form E111 have been issued by her Department over the last 12 months.

Dr. Owen

About 200,000 in 1975.

Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will propose in the Council of Ministers of the EEC that consideration be given to methods by which United Kingdom citizens taken ill when visiting the EEC can receive medical treatment free there without prior presentation of Form E111 and making a subsequent claim at a local social security office, in view of the language and other administrative difficulties which may arise for the ordinary United Kingdom citizen who has to follow the procedures laid down in her Department's leaflet SA28.

Dr. Owen

No. The procedures set out in Leaflet SA28 are those prescribed by other member States for their own citizens. It would not be practicable to apply different procedures for visitors.
