asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in Scotland are registered as suffering from silicosis due to work in (a) mining, (b) bricklaying and (c) steelworking.

Mr. O'Malley

The table below gives the number of miners and steel workers who in each of the last 10 years were for industrial injuries purposes diagnosed as suffering from pneumoconiosis, which includes silicosis, by the Glasgow pneumoconiosis medical panel which deals with claims made in Scotland. Figures for bricklaying are not available.
