HC Deb 02 February 1976 vol 904 cc476-7W
Mr. Crawford

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will estimate the cost to the Exchequer in a full year of the removal of the 8 per cent. levy on the self-employed.

Mr. O'Malley

The income from Class 4 national insurance contributions, to which the hon. Member refers, goes to the National Insurance Fund and the National Health Service. The income which would be lost in respect of 1975–76 if these contributions were not payable is estimated to be about £68 million.
