asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the National Health Service abortion rate per 100 live births for each hospital region of England and Wales in 1975.

Abortions carried out in National Health Service hospitals on women usually resident in England and Wales per 100 live births registered in areas of regional health authorities of England and Wales during 1975 were as follows:

Provisional figures show 8.8 abortions in National Health Service hospitals for every 100 live births in Great Britain in 1975.

(1) how many abortions in 1974 and 1975, respectively, were notified of foetuses of (a) 20–23 weeks gestation and (b) 24 weeks and over gestation;

(2) what percentage of abortions were performed on pregnancies of (a) under nine weeks duration, (b) nine to 12 weeks, (c) 13 to 16 weeks, (d) 17 to 19 weeks, (e) 20 to 23 weeks, and (f) 24 weeks and over in 1974 and 1975, respectively.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the estimated number of discharges from former regional hospital boards; but for 1974–75 on provisional data which are only available by regional health authority of treatment.

The number of discharges in 1973 after abortion with sepsis is estimated at 900. Data for later years are not available.
