§ Mr. Edwin Wainwrightasked the Secretary of State for Industry how many jobs have been created in the South Yorkshire area during each of the past three years; and if he will make a statement on what plans he has to bring more work into the district.
§ Mr. CryerIndustrial development certificates approved in each of the last three years ending 31st October covered projects in South Yorkshire expected to create the following jobs: 1974–5,025; 1975–1,034; and 1976–1,238. A further 2,300 jobs in offices and service industries are expected to be created through offers of regional selective assistance made under Section 7 of the Industry Act 1972. Intermediate area industrial incentives are available in South Yorkshire to encourage the creation of new jobs. South Yorkshire also stands to benefit from the various measures taken by the Government to combat unemployment and to encourage industrial development.
