§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Industry how much capital expenditure has been undertaken on modernising each of the following ship repair yards since they passed into public ownership in 1974: (a) Brigham and Cowan Ltd, (b) the Mercantile Dry Dock Company Ltd, and (c) the Middle Docks and Engineering Company Ltd.
§ Mr. Les HuckfieldMajor modernisation schemes at these yards have had to be postponed owing to the recession in the ship repair market, but £458,000 has been spent on plant, machinery, etc, to maintain the efficiency of the yards.
