HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 c1217W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if, in view of the collapse of QRS and Seven Seas international transport companies, she will consider changes in legislation to protect prospective emigrants in such circumstances.

Mr. Maclennan

As my hon. Friend the Minister of State told my hon. Friend when he wrote to him on 29th July, we see no ready legislative solution to the problems caused to consumers when traders go into liquidation or become bankrupt. Prospective emigrants can, however, be safeguarded by sound advice on the choice of a firm to ship their effects. We are seeking ways in which this might be provided.
