HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 cc1216-7W
Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection when the Statutory Inquiry on Intruder Alarm Systems she requested the Price Commission to undertaken will be completed.

Mr. Maclennan

I understand from the Price Commission that the study is expected to be completed early in the new year.

Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection why she requested the Price Commission to investigate the intruder alarm systems industry.

Mr. Maclennan

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State gave on 28th May to my hon. Friend the Member for Aberdare (Mr. Evans). Consideration of letters received from hon. Members, small businesses and private users led us to the view that an expert assessment of prices and charges for hire of intruder alarms systems was needed.

Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will give a direction to the Price Commission to explain to recipients of the questionnaire on intruder alarm systems the purposes to which the information sought will be put.

Mr. Maclennan

I do not think that a general direction is necessary. If the hon. Member has a particular problem in mind and would care to write to me I shall be glad to consider it.
