Mr. Grocott

asked the Attorney-General if the Lord Chancellor will make it his practice in advising about subsequent appointments to the High Court to establish a balance as between those judges educated at State schools and those educated private.

In making recommendations for all judicial appointments my noble Friend is concerned to find the person best qualified to fill the vacancy. He would not be assisted in this task if he were required to have overriding regard to one factor alone.
