HC Deb 04 August 1976 vol 916 c827W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many civil servants will be declared redundant in the Treasury as a result of the Government's declared policy of reducing the Civil Service; what are their grades or ranks and salaries; and how many of these were engaged in the preparation of the Government's statement for general cuts in Government expenditure and the Civil Service, in particular.

Mr. Denzil Davies

The savings required in the Treasury's expenditure by 1978–79 will be achieved so far as possible by slower recruitment, natural wastage and retirements, and economies in non- staff costs.
