asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is the establishment of the Parliamentary Counsel Office; and what steps are being taken to recruit and train candidates for that Office.

The number of professional staff in the Parliamentary Counsel Office who are engaged on work in connection with the Government's legislative programme is 20 full-time and one part-time. It is planned to recruit a small number of extra staff in the near future.
