HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 cc572-3W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will introduce legislation to enable local authorities to control stray dogs and to prevent contamination of public places;

(2) what measures he is currently taking on areas of land controlled by his Department to eradicate contamination by toxicara canis;

(3) if he will introduce legislation requiring licences to be obtained prior to the purchase of dogs from pet shops and other commercial and semi-commercial outlets;

(4) if he will publish the working party report on the control of dogs.

Mr. Howell

I have now received the report of the Working Party on Dogs. The control of stray dogs, contamination, and licensing before purchase are among the issues covered in the Report. I shall study the report carefully before deciding on further action, but I am already fully aware of the strength of feeling on the issues that my hon. Friend raises.
