§ Mr. Onslowasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the countries where a political embargo on export sales of United Kingdom military equipment currently applies.
§ Mr. MasonNo. Because circumstances do not remain static, successive Governments have found it necessary to consider exports of defence equipment individually and to examine the political, strategic and commercial implications in each case. I would refer the hon. Member to the statements made by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on the supply of arms to South Africa and Chile on 4th December 1974 and 21st May 1975.—[Vol. 882, c. 1555–66; Vol. 892, c. 1389–90.]
