§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the total current expenditure in 1974 on (a) primary and (b) secondary schools in England and in each county; and if he will express these totals per head of pupils of school age.
§ Miss Joan LestorTotal net recurrent expenditure, including loan charges on primary and secondary schools in England in the financial year 1973–74 was £751 million and £891 million respectively. The cost per pupil in those institutions is estimated to be £155 and £270 respectively.
Expenditure figures for each local authority are contained in the annual digest of education statistics published jointly by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, and the Society of County Treasurers, copies of which are in the Library.
