HC Deb 10 November 1975 vol 899 cc538-9W
Mr. Cyril Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she has received any request to see a deputation from the Royal College of Nursing to discuss the pay of school nurses recommended by the Halsbury Report.

Mr. Meacher

Not directly. But the Royal College of Nursing is represented on the Staff Side of the Nurses and Midwives Whitley Council. The Staff Side wrote to my right hon. Friend about the matter and raised it also when they saw my hon. Friend the Minister of State on another matter on 10th July.

Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many school nurses there were in post without health visitor certificates on 1st May 1974; and how many there were on 1st November 1975.

Mr. Meacher

Numbers are not available for the dates quoted. On 1st April 1974 there were 1,960 in whole time equivalents in England. The number is provisionally estimated to have risen to 2,021 on 30th September 1974, the latest date for which figures are available.
