Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the projected advertising budget for her Department in 1975–76; and how this is to be spent by media, subjects and languages.

Mr. O'Malley

Projected expenditure on newspaper, TV, cinema and exhibition advertising is £881,000. This does not include leaflets, posters and booklets. The following list gives details of programes already settled.

her Department has to provide information about increased supplementary benefit scale rates as from 17th November; how much has been spent to date on information about the increased rates; and in what media and language;

(2) what is the total amount spent by her Department on information about the new capital disregards; and in which media and languages.

Information on the increased supplementary benefit scale rate and new capital disregards is included in our three leaflets on supplementary pension and allowances, of which 5 million were printed. In addition there are posters which include the new scale rates. The total cost is £25,000 including Post Office distribution charges of £4,000. They are written in English.
