HC Deb 10 November 1975 vol 899 c404W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he intends to relax any of the constraints placed on the activities of Cable and Wireless Limited in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Varley

Yes. I have agreed to relax the restrictions placed by the previous Government on Cable and Wireless's freedom to provide telecommunications private systems and allied services in the United Kingdom, subject to consultation with the Government on significant developments. I believe that the company has a great deal to offer and that it is important that it should be free to compete with the private sector on an equal footing.
