HC Deb 04 November 1975 vol 899 c88W
16. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what success she has had in her efforts to procure more kidneys available for transplant; and if she will make a statement.

Dr. Owen

585 kidneys were transplanted in the United Kingdom in the year ended 30th September 1975. The comparable figure for the previous year was 521. Although there continues to be a steady increase in the number of kidneys becoming available there remains an urgent need for more.
