asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will give early consideration to the need for strengthening consumer protection in the sale of motor cars.

The legal protection of the consumer buying a motor car has been strengthened considerably in recent years. The Director General of Fair Trading is now discussing with the motor trade a code of practice for the industry. If my hon. Friend has specific points which he would like to see included in the code I am sure that the Director General would be glad to consider them.
