Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many civil servants are employed in his Department; what is the total cost of running that Department for the latest year for which figures are available; and if he will itemise the main constituent costs.

1,310 staff were employed in the Welsh Office on 1st June 1975. The total cost and the main constituent costs, excluding accommodation, of running the Department in 1973–74 were as follows:
