HC Deb 26 June 1975 vol 894 c235W
Mr. Cordle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his policy in regard to the proposed underpass beneath Womborne Road at the top of Richmond Hill in Bournemouth; and whether his Department considers that the underpass would be necessary to enable the dual carriageway, Wessex Way, to achieve a significant improvement of traffic flow in and around the town centre of Bournemouth.

Mr. Carmichael

This is a local authority road, and it is for Dorset County Council, as highway authority, to decide the priority given to the underpass scheme in the context of its transport policy and programme. However, the level of accepted transport expenditure in the county from 1975–76 would permit this scheme to proceed if the council so decides.
