HC Deb 26 June 1975 vol 894 c232W
Dr. Hampson

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, in view of the threat to the textile industry because of the continued delay in completing bilateral arrangements under the MFA and the consequent increase in the import of cheap garments, if he will now impose quotas on wool-predominant suits from State-trading countries and extend the import-surveillance scheme to clothing.

Mr. Kaufman

We are currently considering the extension of surveillance licensing to clothing, and my Department is examining whether there is a case for safeguarding action as regards imports of woollen suits.
