HL Deb 17 June 1975 vol 361 c870WA
Lord TEVIOT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consider the appointment of a Users' Committee to represent the interests of those who use the services of the General Register Office.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

Consultative and Users' Councils have been set up under provisions made in the various Acts governing the nationalised industries. No such provision exists in the Registration Acts and Her Majesty's Government do not consider that such provision should be made.

Users of the Public Search Room at the General Register Office can and do discuss their problems with the staff and the Registrar General would be prepared to meet any representative body of the users of his facilities provided that body represented the interests of the general public as well as those of commercial users.

House rose at twenty-nine minutes before eight o'clock.
