§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why statistics relating to the issue of new passports to immigrants claiming to have lost their original passports are not kept by his Department; and if he will now take steps to ensure that such statistics are compiled in future.
§ Mr. RowlandsI refer the hon. Member to my reply of 25th June.—[Vol. 894, c.137.]—If he is concerned about the possible misuse of passports claimed to have been lost. I can assure him that there are considerable obstacles to the successful use of a lost passport by a second person, and that attempts to enter this country illegally on such passports are regularly detected by the Immigration Service.
