§ Mr. Stallard
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much per week is paid for all the additional facilities at the disposal of the paying patient under the National Health Service.
§ Dr. Owen
The normal statutory charge is based on the average cost of all services provided for NHS patients except the cost of consultant services. The charge also includes a small addition for extra catering costs and, where appropriate, for the use of a single room. If private patients are provided with further 447W additional services not needed on medical grounds, they pay the full cost of these. I am afraid I have no precise information of the charges made in practice for these extra facilities.
