HC Deb 15 December 1975 vol 902 cc520-1W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what powers she has, and what steps her Department takes, to ensure that supplementary benefit is not paid to citizens of the Republic of Ireland who have entered the United Kingdom with their families for the principal purpose of receiving such benefit.

Mr. O'Malley

Supplementary Benefit is paid to citizens of the Republic of Ireland on the same conditions and subject to the same controls as anyone else; they are required, if fit, to register for work and to take any suitable work that is offered to them.
