§ Mr. HattersleySoviet inspectors who receive visas for periods longer than three months are subject to the Travel Notification Scheme. According to this Scheme, Soviet inspectors resident in London are required to give the Foreign and Commonwealth Office two working days' notice of their intention to travel beyond a 35-miles radius of the centre of London. Inspectors who reside in the provinces are required to give one working day's notice to the local police of their intention to travel beyond the boundaries of the town or district where they are resident. In all cases, full details of itineraries are required.
The Travel Notification Scheme applies equally to all Soviet officials who receive visas for periods longer than three months. The only exception is the Soviet Ambassador 388W who, together with his family, personal interpreter and personal driver, is permitted to travel within the United Kingdom without prior notification to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
