HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 cc506-7W
18. Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he can now assess the effect of the implementation of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 on the rate of industrial accidents.

Mr. Harold Walker

I am informed by the Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission that it is too early to try to assess the effect of the Act on industrial accidents.

40. Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many prosecutions on indictment under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and related legislation have taken place during 1975 to the most recent practicable date.

Mr. Harold Walker

Up to 28th November 1975, one company had been tried on indictment and fined £800 with costs. A second company is awaiting trial at a Crown Court. All information had been preferred by inspectors of the Health and Safety Executive. I have not been informed of any cases preferred by inspectors of local authorities.

44. Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment when a decision will be made on the siting of the head-quarters of the Health and Safety Commission.

Mr. Harold Walker

The Health and Safety Commission has informed me that a thorough study is now being undertaken on the question of its ultimate location. The Chairman of the Commission expects to be able to let my right hon. Friend have his recommendation in the early part of the New Year.
