HC Deb 07 August 1975 vol 897 c380W
Mr. Gorst

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what percentage of council houses capable of accommodating more than one person is inhabited by single tenants.

Mr. Armstrong

I regret that information is not available in the form requested. However, the 1971 Census recorded that 9 per cent. of those households in England and Wales who rented housing from local authorities or new towns and who had four or more rooms consisted of one person.

Mr. Hatton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects that the results of the research initiated by his Department into local authority housing schemes which are unpopular or difficult to let will be conveyed to local authorities.

Mr. Armstrong

A report will be sent to local authorities in the autumn.
