HC Deb 04 August 1975 vol 897 cc53-4W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what financial assistance, if any, the Government has agreed to give to BAA for the purpose of establishing sound insulation grants schemes at Edinburgh Airport.

Mr. Clinton Davis

None. The BAA already finances in full the schemes set up on a statutory basis at Heathrow and Gatwick and will do the same for the schemes set up on a voluntary basis at its four Scottish airports, of which Edinburgh is one.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade which airports in Great Britain have sound insulation grants schemes; and whether the same noise criterion applies to the definition of the area within which the grant has been made available to each case involving those airports.

Mr. Clinton Davis

There are noise insulation grant schemes at Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester, and, until recently, at Luton. Noise and number index contour lines are used as the basis for defining the areas covered by all these schemes, but boundaries vary according to local circumstances and to take account of geographical features and administrative arrangements.
