§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Minister of Overseas Development what response Her Majesty's Government intend to make to the UNICEF special appeal for $50 million and 140,000 tons of children's foods to enable UNICEF to carry out eight major special assistance programmes during 1975 and 1976, not including emergency assistance for Vietnam.
§ Mrs. HartI am ready to respond, subject to parliamentary approval, to the special appeal for Honduras by giving £150,000. We have provided bilateral emergency assistance of over £100,000 to that country. We have already contributed £1 million to the appeal issued last year for Indo-China; and we have made contributions to the FAO Special Trust Fund for the Sudano-Sahelian Region, from which UNICEF has received funds for its work there.
I am still examining the other appeals most recently received. Including the sum of £250,000 for Vietnam which I announced on 9th April, Her Majesty's Government have given more than £1.5 million in the last three years in response to UNICEF appeals. This is in addition to our regular contribution to UNICEF which, I hope, will this year amount to £2 million, again subject to parliamentary approval.
