asked the Minister of Overseas Development what aid is currently being offered in the field of education to Dahomey, Nigeria, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, the Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Togo, respectively.

During 1973, the latest period for which statistics are available, aid in this field was:

This aid was spent on support for expatriate personnel working in education, training awards in this country, summer vacation courses for teachers and equipment, including books.

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what technical assistance is currently offered in the sphere of industrial development to Dahomey, Nigeria, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Togo, respectively; and what projects and proposals are presently under consideration.

Technical assistance under consideration includes:

Nigeria: An adviser to the Northern Central State to supervise the establishment of intermediate technology workshops. Some £640,000 has been offered to the Institute of Management and Technology at Enugu for the purchase of equipment.

Ghana: An expert in brick manufacture.

I am providing assistance for trainees on industrial courses in the United Kingdom, as follows:

Much of our technical assistance programmes to the countries listed by the hon. Member is for the improvement of agriculture.
