§ Mr. Matherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will set up an independent inquiry into the effect of the fluoridation of water supplies.
§ Dr. OwenThere have already been a number of authoritative inquiries giving a clear assessment of the benefit to be derived from the fluoridation of public water suppplies and I do not propose to set up another inquiry on this matter at this time. The fluoridation of water supplies is, however, likely to be one of the subjects dealt with in a consultative document on preventive health measures which the Government are preparing for issue later this year.
