§ Mr. Robert SheldonTaking the internal purchasing power of the new halfpenny piece as 1.2 old pence in August 1969, the month in which the former halfpenny coin was demonetised, it is estimated to have been 073 old pence in October 1974, the latest date available. This estimate is based on the change in the General Index of Retail Prices between these two months.
