HC Deb 28 November 1974 vol 882 cc205-6W
Mr. Beith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether in view of the effects of inflation and the higher interest rates now prevalent, he will bring forward proposals to increase the rate of interest on 3½ per cent. War Loan.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

It is a fundamental principle of the Government's operations in the market that, once a stock is issued, its terms are never varied. There is no provision in the prospectus of this stock for altering the rate of interest.
