HC Deb 28 November 1974 vol 882 c244W
Mr. Snape

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what response has been received to the letter from the Minister for Transport to the management of 100 large firms in Great Britain asking them to redirect traffic from the roads to the railways.

Mr. Mulley

Almost all the firms I approached agreed to discuss with the British Railways Board the scope for increasing their use of rail for suitable freight. Detailed talks are going on, but it is too early to say what their outcome will be.
