§ Mr. Lamontasked the Secretary of State for Industry what instructions he has issued which give him a rôle in the allocation of orders for computer systems placed by nationalised industries.
§ Mr. BennNationalised industries have been asked to take account of the Government's support for International Computers Ltd. and to follow a similar policy to that of central Government when purchasing large computer systems. Because my Department has the of promoting the British computer industry, I expect it to be consulted in such cases, particularly when computer purchase by a nationalised industry forms part of a project which requires investment approval by the appropriate Minister.
