HC Deb 25 November 1974 vol 882 cc44-5W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the numbers of people receiving redundancy payments for each year since the scheme's inception; if he will express these totals as a percentage of redundancies: and if he will list the average size of payments for each of the years.

Mr. John Fraser

The following information relates to employees in respect of whom payments were made from the Redundancy Fund during each year:

Calendar year Number of employees Average payment to the employees £
6th December 1965 to 31st December 1966 138,895 192
1967 249,782 201
1963 264,491 234
1969 250,764 247
1970 275,563 263
1971 370,306 292
1972 297,120 328
1973 176,919 376
1st January 1974 to 30th September 1974 124,403 376

Information about employees who did not qualify for a payment under the Redundancy Payments Act 1965 is not available and it is not therefore possible to express these totals as a percentage of redundancies.
